Lawang Hawang Guwang: The Sustainability of the Guwang Traditional Village Water System is a documentary book that explores the sacred relationship between Balinese people and water as a source of life. Based on an 18-month visual expedition and research, this book portrays Guwang Village, Gianyar, as an example of the harmony between tradition, spirituality, and modernity in water management. Through photographic, anthropological, and ecological approaches, this book explores the role of rivers (tukad) as the lifeblood of civilization, the Subak irrigation system based on the Tri Hita Karana philosophy, and ritual-based conservation practices such as the mendak tirta (water purification) at Beji Temple. Water is understood not simply as a resource, but as tirta amerta—the lifeblood that connects humans, nature, and God. In addition to spiritual and cultural aspects, this book also discusses the economic use of water, including bottled water, clean water distribution, and the challenges of sustainable tourism through the Hidden Canyon ecotourism area. Village potentials such as wood carving, marble inscriptions, guitar crafts, and traditional culinary delights enrich the narrative.
